LEADERS
IN TRAINING
CanAdventure
Education offers a Leaders-In-Training (LIT) Program for
developing eco-tourism professionals. Designed as an ideal
transition from camping enthusiast to a career in eco-tourism,
the program emphasizes the development of outdoor leadership
skills in an adventure-learning context and offers a balance
of formal training, mentoring, and practical hands-on
experience.
The
LIT Program consists of a three-level approach to skill
and theory based training in the field of experiential
education. Each phase is thirty-two days in length. The
first two levels consist of progressive training in theory
and skill development and the last includes an internship
under the mentorship of our most expereinced staff. The
LIT curriculum includes a mix of theory and hands-on practice
in the areas of industry standards, risk management, teaching
theories, leadership styles, cultural awareness, wilderness
skills, trip planning, service, and industry certifications.
Leaders are evaluated through a series of written and
practical evaluations.
Training
and certification courses are integrated into CanAdventure
Education's base camp activities and wilderness expeditions,
providing LITs an opportunity to experience CanAdventure
Education programming models first-hand while visiting
some of the most sought-after eco-tourism destinations
on Vancouver Island.
LITs
will benefit from training, mentorship, and on-the-job
experience that will position them for the next steps
in an eco-tourism and/or youth programming career future.
Subsequent jobs instructors with CanAdventure Education
are possible for top LIT graduates.
The
LIT Program is available to 16-25 year-olds on a case-by-case
