ACADEMIC PROGRAM
CanAdventure
Education has certified teachers and instructors on staff
that can help your child with their academics, either on
a short-term basis through our Struggling
Teen Journey Program or over a longer-term in our Struggling
Teen School Program.
How
does this work? There
are two approaches that work within our structure:
Struggling
Teen Journey Program:
While priority during our Struggling
Teen Journey Program focuses on each participant's areas
of challenge and personal growth, we do believe that maintaining
progress with academics is an important issue for many.
CanAdventure Education's certified teachers and instructors
are able to provide tutorial time and support in appropriate
cases. Academic progress may be achieved by completing homework
packages assembled by teachers from your child's school
for completion during CanAdventure Education's Struggling
Teens Journey Program. In
addition, CanAdventure Education's Struggling Teens Journey
curriculum meets learning outcomes for many high school
level courses including: Physical Education, Social Studies,
Environmental Studies, Ecology, Earth Science, Language
Arts, Art, and Career and Personal Planning courses. Your
child's teachers can forward learning outcomes to our certified
teachers, who can then indicate and evaluate which learning
outcomes have been met. Past struggling teen participants
have often achieved credit for their work at CanAdventure
Education by bringing their curriculum books back to school
for assessment. We are happy to facilitate this process.
Please note that the amount of time dedicated to school-based
academics depends on each participant's progression through
our Struggling
Teen Journey Program curriculum.
Struggling
Teen School Program:
CanAdventure
Education offers a longer-term Struggling
Teen School Program, called the Hero's Quest, as an alternative to boarding schools
for troubled teens. The Struggling Teen School Program blends
CanAdventure Education's holistic Struggling Teen Journey
programming with academic tutorials, community service,
leadership training, and family workshops to allow participants
to go beyond that which is offered at most boarding schools
for troubled teens. Participants
in our Struggling Teen School Program must be registered
with the South Island Distance Education School (SIDES)
or a comparable distance education program in your home
region. SIDES is a distributed learning school that allows
students to complete their work through correspondence and
offers all graduation requirements in the Province of British
Columbia. The program is free for youth with a fixed address
in BC and also serves out-of-province students for a fee.
Most provinces and states have similar programs available
to their residents at no cost. CanAdventure Education's
certified teachers and instructors work in partnership with
distance education schools to ensure smooth and effective
delivery of their course packages.
